According to the US Census Bureau the trade deficit grew by $69 billion in 2018 and by $119 billion since President Trump took office promising to take on the nations trade imbalance. This is the clearest indication that President Trump’s “America First” trade initiative is not having the intended effect.
The current US annual trade deficit is $621 bullion indicating that we imported over a half a trillion worth of goods more than we sold.
We have current trade imbalance growth at more than 12% per year which will put the annual trade deficit at over a trillion dollars within the next 5 years.
